Who Wore it Best: November Poll

The Royal Hats Bog

Two of the loveliest winter royal hats I can think of were worn by a pair of queens who are each, individually, rather infrequent hat wearers. I am talking about the “wave” hats worn by Queen Sonja of Norway and Queen Paola of Belgium –  wool felt hats with dramatic wave shaped, upturned brims. The striking shape of this molded felt brim is so unique and interesting that I cannot resist asking, Who Wore It Best?

As usual, the poll will remain open until midnight GMT November 29 on and we will celebrate the winner the next morning. You are again welcome to vote as many times as you wish.

  1. I prefer Paola’s. The waving is more subtle. I also like the edging on the brim. Sonja’s looks a little unfinished in that respect. The shape of the crown, and overall shape of the hat is better on Paola as well, IMO.

  2. Many people wear black, brown or navy in the winter. This just goes to show how beautiful and “wintery” pastels can look. I think both of these hats are just gorgeous.

  3. These two hats are so interesting! They are like mathematical ripples or polynomials. I can only imagine the difficulty in molding them and getting them to stay in shape. My best vote is for Queen Sonja.

  4. I do hope our votes are not influenced by the fact that one photo has the subject with a frown on her face and the other has a smile!

    • Good point, Barbara. A hat always does look better when the wearer is smiling! I hope most voters will discern the best hat, not the more attractive facial expression.
