Who Wore It Best: August 2014 Poll

Royal Hats

Royal Hats

This summer, we have faced off several neutral hued summery hats in our polls (see July’s two polls here and here). As we move into the hazy, lazy days of August, let’s look at the sea shore inspired headpieces by Belgian designer Fabienne Delvigne. In palest pinks and watery greys, these five dramatic royal headpieces all carry a decidedly beachy vibe. The question is, dear readers, who wore it best?

The poll will remain open until August 18, 2014 at midnight GMT and we will celebrate the results shortly afterward. As usual, you are welcome to vote as many times as you wish. To avoid confusion, I have named everyone above with their current titles even though Queen Mathilde was a princess at the time of this photo and the Hereditary Grand Duchess was still Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy.

  1. I admit, there may have been some bias to my vote. Yesterday, I read an article about Princess Charlene, where she spoke of how kind Queen Maxima has been to her, offering support and advice whenever she needed her. So, I have to admit, my vote was a toss up between Max and another royal lady, so the vote went to Queen Maxima.

    • It’s always lovely hearing these kinds of stories.

I’ll let you in on a secret- you can vote more than once, for more than one choice in these polls!

  2. It is interesting to see all of these organic shaped hats together, and although I hadn’t previously got a seaside vibe from them, I quite see what you mean, HatQueen. I like all these hats on all their individual wearers on those individual occasions (Queen Silvia’s is perhaps not as well proportioned as the others, and I would say Maixma wears hers with a particular panache). They are actually rather unusual in royal millinery terms, and a welcome change for that reason, but seeing them altogether like this makes them a little indigestible!

  3. Queen Silvia, usually so elegant, missed the mark here for me ( it looks way too big for her), as did Queen Mathilde I’m afraid. I find Mathilde’s the most ridiculous looking of the lot to be honest, sorry to disagree TiarasRUs!!!! No question for me the winner is…..Máxima. She she looks very natural in it. We are familiar with her penchant for interesting hats and she is able to carry them off better than anyone because they are a reflection of her vibrant, charismatic, flamboyant and energetic personality. IMHO!! Thanks for the fun post.

  4. I can’t honestly say that I am crazy about any of these hats, but if I must choose one, then I think Mathilde’s hat is the most wearable, as it’s less absurd looking than the others.
