Who Wore It Best: September 2015 Poll

Royal Hats Identifying Princess Caroline’s hat yesterday left me with an eerie sense of deja vu. After some royal hat research, I confirmed that this free trade raffia picture hat from Madagascar has graced another royal head. The colous are different and the wearer’s choice of where to fold up the brim varies but the hats are the same. When such things happen, I can’t resist asking, dearest readers, who wore it best?

  1. I like both hats on both women, but have voted for Maxima for 2 reasons: a) The colour is so rich and lovely; b) We can see her face despite the size of the brim. Caroline’s hat, while looking gorgeous on her, well, she just disappears under it, and the colour is rather washed out when paired with her clothing.

  2. Interestingly, I think Queen Máxima has another hat in this style, in beige

  3. I like both hats, so this is a tough vote for me. I think Queen Maxima just has the edge over Princess Caroline. There aren’t many hats that look good with pants, but this one pulls through. This is a great shade of red on her too. I wish she didn’t have the giant hatpin in the back, which looks dangerous. Princess Caroline looked effortlessly chic as usual, in her large purple straw hat and tailored suit. While this big hat was perfect for a sunny day, it just looked a little too big for her, and concealed her face a bit too much.

  4. I wonder if perhaps the fold was dictated by the events at which they were worn; Maxima was on a public engagement, and those are better when the royal face can be seen. Caroline was a guest (not the main attraction) at a private event, albeit one that was photographed!

  5. Maybe it’s just the quality of the photo but does anyone else think that the tip of Caroline’s hat looked dirty/stained? The style of it reminded me of a gardening sun hat when I first saw it. Maybe she plopped it on after some time weeding and headed to the christening?;)
