Lovely Christmas greetings from numerous royal houses
We close this week with a tale of Christmas magic, told by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
Photos from social media as indicated
I’m no expert on fashion, and this is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but if a hairband can become larger and padded and embellished and then be called a bandeau and be considered a “proper hat”, I see no reason why this can’t also happen to a large structured hairbow on an adult woman. I agree with Shanon — Sarah’s hairbows in the 80s were lots of fun. While I wouldn’t want to see hairbows on HM or even Princess Anne, I think the younger generation of adult royals ought to popularize them.
I will join you, Matthew in your unpopular opinion! I love bows and I don’t think Nina’s looks too twee because of it’s size. It looks very feminine to me.
Princess Nina’s Chanel suit looks lovely, but honestly, a hair bow?
What a beautiful percher, Wies! The burgundy folded ribbon, finished with a bow, makes it look like a gift — so perfect for Christmas.
I also like the Arts & Crafts-inspired trims on the Borsalinos, the inventive octagonal shape of the Karyn Ruiz cloche, and the unexpected use of tweed with a lily trim on the Mei Mei pillbox.
Thank you Mittenmary. This ribbon pleating technique is fun and the geometrical result is mentally very satisfying. Also, it is refreshing to learn new techniques (the percher was the result of an online workshop I did with Australian master milliner Louise Macdonald).
I agree with you that grown up women should wear grown up hats, not hair bows!
I agree mittenmary about the bow, however, it reminds me of Sarah, the Duchess of York’s love of hair bows in the ’80’s. I wonder why Queen Anne-Marie wasn’t at the ceremony?
Perfectly stated about Wies’ hat looking like a present! Just lovely!
Princess Charlene’s hat looks very funky with her new, edgy haircut.
Love the blue felt hat by Dorothy Marant. This would look lovely (and not too heavy on the head) on CP Mette-Marit.
Tracy Miller’s orchid percher with crystal veil is so glam. Princess Madeleine would look gorgeous in this.
Merry Christmas everyone! Please stay safe and healthy!
Swiss public health restrictions allowed just 2 witnesses at the civil ceremony. The couple chose both of their fathers.
