Queen Máxima Attends Conference in Amsterdam

Queen Máxima was in Amsterdam today to attend a conference on the quality of school education. She unveiled an interesting new calot hat in khaki green pleated fabric. The hat is clearly made to match her skirt and the colour blocking in this outfit is a modern touch. Yesterday I complained about her dull, neutral ensemble– this is neutral but not dull at all. If I walked into a hat shop, this is not a hat I would choose but I think it’s a good accessory for this outfit. What do you think?

  1. Max looks very uncomfortable in this outfit. It is clearly too tight. It’s hard to look confident when you are uncomfortable with what you are wearing. I like the hat but as has been mentioned, the hair is not quite right.

  2. I keep thinking ‘baby poo’ when I look at the colour of the hat. Aside from that I think a colour that contrasts with her hair would be better – would have worked better in navy.

    • In NZ we call it Karitane after a wonderful institution that used to train nurses specialising in baby care and mother support! I guess the connection is self-explanitory.

  3. IMO this is a god hat-to-outfit match, but (as is often the case with Maxima) she has marred the effect with sloppy hair. As to the outfit, the idea is good, but the execution… well, there is nothing I can really add to what has been said already.

  4. I like the hat. The outfit is nice. Two criticisms….#1 the outfit is just a touch too tight…#2 the hairstyle needs to be tamed some. This hat would look much better with her hair up in an elegant style rather than just “hanging limply.”

  5. This is one of those “scratch your head in wonder” ‘outfits. According to the creases in that skirt , it is too tight. Then where the color blocking occurs is at the widest part of the hip.. So, to match a hat to the skirt is just questionable to my old fashioned mind. The hat’s position is a question mark to me. Is a calot supposed to be worn that far back on the head?
