King Harald and Queen Sonja welcomed German President Joachim Gauck and his partner Daniela Schadt at the Royal Palace in Oslo yesterday for the start of a three-day state visit. Queen Sonja wore a cream straw hat with very classic shape and proportions, trimmed with a simple ribbon around the crown. It was a very simple look when paired with her cream coat and dress but one that allowed her jade jewelry to stand out. Daniela Schadt wore a navy (or black? I can’t tell) straw variation on a cloche hat with the brim turned up at the front.

Queen Sonja looked elegant in this classic cream straw hat and I liked the simple trim of a ribbon around the crown, but it would have been good to use jade green to match her jewels I think. I love the tailoring of her cream coat and dress, it was very summery but elegant, and her jade jewels looked lovely. And speaking of green, Princess Astrid, who I adore for her cuteness, and sadly cut off the photo above, but visible on Lex’s link, thanks Lex, looked cheery and colorful in a green outfit and smart green pillbox that was ideal for a summer occasion. Daniela Schadt’s hat looked black to me, and with her black shoes, this was not a good summer look. I liked the peeping pink top under her suit. I do love a cloche style hat with the brim turned up at the front, but it’s just a shame it was dark for summer and didn’t really coordinate with her outfit.
