King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were in Michigan yesterday to visit the largest Dutch-origin community in the USA. For this visit to the Grand Rapids area, Queen Máxima repeated the wheat gold straw hat with raised brim she wore last week in Canada. The outdoor photos taken yesterday show just how gossamer light the weave of the straw on the brim of this piece is, creating an almost halo effect around Máxima’s face.

We have seen this hat worn with this orange tunic before. While the two shades are quite complimentary, in certain lighting the hue of the tunic casts an orangey tinge to the hat. For this reason, I prefer this hat with the white dress we saw it paired with last week.

Queen Máxima has made several meaningful gestures through her fashion choices on this North American tour and the choice of orange for yesterday’s visit to this large Dutch origin community was no coincidence. What do you think of this hat paired with this ensemble?

Gorgeous! Well balanced outfit from shoes to hat!
Orange – appropriate to place , occasion, time of day, season. And Maxima looks brilliant in it.
I think this hat looked best with the white dress, but I also like it with the orange too.
Orange is not my favorite color by any means and difficult for most people (in my opinion) to wear well. Maxima is one of those few who can well orange. I like this outfit very much. I prefer, as do several others, the hat with her earlier dress but it does work well here.
That hat itself is absolutely fabulous, even though I rather preferred it with the less colorful outfit earlier in the trip, perhaps because I’m personally not that fond of bright orange, especially when paired with another color. Today’s outfit is so carefully put together, however, with the two-toned shoes even, that one simply has to be impressed. (And she does have to get the orange in, of course.)
Love it all!
I am very jealous… Queen Maxima has been able to wear 4 great hats in less than a week! (And one on repeat too!) I wish I had as many occasions to wear lovely hats… And as many hats as Maxima!
Maxima looks vibrant and lovely here; a wonderful hat.
I like it too, and it does tone better with the skirt, although it must be hard to pair anything with that vibrant orange color. It actually doesn’t look too bad, but I agree with you that it looked best with the white dress.
I love this hat on her, and I think it looked great with her outfit. I lived most of my life in this Dutch community in Michigan and wish I could’ve been there to see Maxima in person!
Depending on the light, sometimes it compliments the tunic and at other times the skirt. I like this hat a lot.
Aahh, I’ve been waiting for this post to arrive! I think this is my favorite ensemble of her entire North American tour! The hat is great (even if it is a repeat from earlier in the trip; I mean, how many hats can we really expect her to have for a week away?), and I love the color combo here. This orange is fantastic on Maxima and a great nod to the Dutch community in Michigan. I did love this hat with the white outfit as well, but my personal bias towards colors gets me here, and I like her hairstyle better this time around. It was really great to see them plant a tree in the same park where Beatrix and Juliana had also planted trees during their respective visits in 1982 and 1952. This has definitely been a successful trip for Willem-Alexander and Maxima.
I love this hat and I agree with everything Jake says.
I agree. Love everything about this outfit. For once, I can say the entire ensemble is a home run.
Beautiful.
It’s odd how the sun filters through the brim…but that is a fluke. I think the hat and outfit are fine.
