Kent Princess Attends French Book Fair

Princess Michael of Kent attended the 20th ‘Foret des Livres’ (Forest of Books) book fair on over the weekend in Chanceaux-pres-Loches. For the casual event, which hosted more than two hundred writers, Marie Christine wore a white canvas hat with starched brim. I usually count on Princess Michael to bring millinery drama and this hat falls flat- it seems much better suited to a day at the beach than paired with a fancy necklace at a literary event. And don’t get me started on that hair scrunchie…

  1. What a glamorous princess. I was unaware of her, so I appreciate this post. In the photo where she is looking up, she bears a resemblance to Anne Bancroft. Such a classic, elegant look.
Now to the hat. Perhaps it was felt to be a casual event, but even so, some of those wide brim straw hats might flatter her more. Her outfit is coordinated beautifully, but I wonder if the white actually washes her out a bit.

  2. I don’t like the floppy canvas hat and it is unflattering to her. She should bin the scrunchie. I don’t understand at all how a Princess who owns so many pieces of beautiful, authentic jewellery decided to buy these ugly costume pieces. I like the coat.

    • I agree with your criticism of her fashions, especially that hair scrunchie, however, I think this was just a private, informal event, and she was not representing the Queen. So the dress code was most likely casual. So she most likely would have looked over-dressed in more formal clothes and jewels.

  3. I think this hat was chosen more for sun protection than fashion. It’s an outdoor event and she needs to protect that eye as well as her face. While the hat may not be a “statement” overall it is a good match to the rest of her outfit and I think she looks lovely in that shade of blue.

  4. I”m not certain what the necklace is, but it looks a little beach like too. I think the whole outfit overall is dramatic and coordinated.

  5. Actually I don’t mind it. Yeah it’s a bit floppy but it’s a casual event, and it coordinates well with her outfit. She reminds me a bit of Joan Collins relaxing in this outfit, mind that’s NEVER a bad thing! I think she still looks characteristically elegant (I’m ignore the scrunchie okay…)
