On Tuesday, Crown Princess Masako was spotted arriving at the Imperial Palace to greet her mother-in-law on the occasion of her eighty-first birthday. Masako wore a new hat for the visit, in the same pale gold moire taffeta as her ruffled neck suit. The unadorned hat featured a rounded crown and pleated bumper brim which gave the piece some much needed movement.

Yesterday, Princess Masako arrived at the Imperial Palace for a family lunch hosted by her grandparents on the occasion of her 24th birthday. The young princess repeated a demure rounded pillbox hat in palest blush pink printed silk.

Crown Princess Masako’s gold hat and suit are flattering to her coloring, and I like the pleats in the hat and the ruffled neckline. This is one of her best hats yet. I don’t mind Princess Masako’s pillbox, but it lacks any wow factor. The pale pink color is quite flattering to her coloring.
The ruffles of her outfit’s collar and the pleats on her hat are just what is needed to keep things lively; so great to see Masako again, and giving us that great smile of hers! Mako looks good as well, but nothing special.
The first hat and outfit is fine however I think it would be nicer in a different pastel. Also think black would be nice but for this occasion .
The second hat is nice too.
Both princesses look most attractive.
