Princess Beatrix was in The Hague today to open the new office of UNICEF Netherlands. For this event, she repeated a periwinkle blue hat with rounded felt crown and tall bumper brim in textured straw. I really want to like this piece but the brim looks a little too crafty and homespun for me. What do you think of this interesting piece?

I am never a fan of Princess Beatrix’s enormous bumper hats. This periwinkle blue colour is a good choice though.
I like it the patterned brim, makes a nice change, but wish her dress had perhaps been plain.
I thought the texture of the brim was a nice counterpoint to her dress. It often seems like her hats are so enormous that they overpower the whole look, but I can live with this one.
It doesn’t read as crafty or homemade to my eyes, but it is still massive. There’s also such a disconnect between the brim and the crown. Still, I’m glad she sticks to what she likes despite our opinions. 🙂
Its too big!
IMO, it looks like she’s wearing a tire on her head.
my thoughts exactly
She does appear to fancy this style of hat, although it’s not my favorite. The color of the hat is beautiful.
I can’t for the life of me like like the mega-bumpsters of Princess Beatrix, but the periwinkle blue color is a winner on Princess Beatrix.
Pretty color, but not a fan of her bumper hats regardless of their color and texture.
I agree. Also the pattern on the hat brim is waging war with the pattern on her dress.
