I am taking some time for travel and study over the next few weeks, before celebrating 10 years of covering Royal Ascot here by attending the first three days of the races, in person! If there are any royal hats worn today or tomorrow, please share them in the comments here.

  1. The winner of the Monaco Grand Prix in 1960, also pictured, was the inimitable Englishman Stirling Moss (1929-2020). From his Wikipedia entry: His father was an amateur racing driver, who had come 16th in the 1924 Indianapolis 500, and his mother had also been involved in motorsport, entering into hillclimbs at the wheel of a Singer Nine. Moss was a gifted horse rider, as was his younger sister, Pat Moss, who went on to become a successful rally driver.
They sound like an interesting family.

  2. I’m so thrilled you will be attending Ascot, dear HatQueen! I hope it’s everything you hope and beyond!
