Another week of Royal Ascot racing has arrived! For the first time, I’m attending in person and was on hand yesterday for the arrival of the king and queen to the races for the first time in their new roles.

I’m afraid that I agree with Jake, YEESH! I don’t love it. I find the angular crown to be awkward and although the sheen of the silk hatband is lovely, I really don’t like the thickness and feels it looks clunky especially when compared to the sleek brim. The Queen’s ivory dress and coat from Dior are detailed and wonderful.
She clearly enjoys wearing hats like this and they really work well. I particularly like the sheen of the silk padded band against the matte of the rest of the hat as shown so exquisitely in the first photo of the 3rd group: it looks as though it was echoed by the sheen of the coat fabric.
I agree that the overall look, while impeccable and elegant wasn’t a show-stopper for her first Royal Ascot as Queen although that brooch was an inspired choice.
And, yes, please do show us the hat you wore!

I was a little disappointed that The Queen Consort didn’t wear a brand new hat for the first day of Royal Ascot. However, this is a beautiful hat and looks to be very well constructed. Like many others I prefer The Queen Consort in bigger hats like this one.
The embroidery on the Dior coat and dress is exquisite and a lovely foil to the sleek lines of the hat.
Not gonna lie, this photo sums up my reaction to Camilla’s hat for Day 1:

How lovely that you were there!! So close and May we see your hat please???? The King is so classic and I love the Queen’s outfit and the hat is divine. She is truly lovely wearing her large brimmed hats! And the shell brooch that was the Late Queen’s!! What a lovely day it must have been!!
King Charles III and Queen Camilla both looked like they had a ripping grand carriage ride into their first Ascot. Well Done! Her hat is exactly what I was hoping for – big and stylish.
So pleased to see the Queen in one of her big hats again. She wears them so well. I like the unusual crown shape and the rolled satin trim. The hat goes beautifully with the embellished ensemble.
The King is as natty as always.
