Ascot 2023 Day 2: The Tindalls

Mike and Zara Tindall were included in the carriage procession on the second day of Royal Ascot on Wednesday.

Mike repeated his black antique silk top hat.

Zara contrasted her dark blue dress with a jade sinamay saucer. The sharp vertical placement of the design is highlighted with with mult-loops of silk abaca and sinamay on the underside of the raised side of the brim.

It’s a great hat on Zara and I adore the colour contrast between hat and dress.

  1. I agree with sirlancelot that I prefer Mike in this grey morning suit, and his top hat is absolutely stunning! While the Duke of Edinburgh has a great one, Mike’s is my favorite and these photos demonstrate just how beautiful it is. I have such hat envy, especially since I don’t own a top hat (yet!). Whether he has a stylist or just a great natural eye (and a fantastic tailor, of course), Mike knows how to do formalwear well, and his appearances at Cheltenham and Ascot continue to clearly demonstrate this.

This saucer hat flatters Zara very well, is a nice subtle change from her usual cocktail perchers, and harkens back to some of her earlier bold Treacy looks; my only minor complaint is I wish it was pushed back slightly. The jade green and navy blue is also a wonderful color combo for her (although we all know I’m biased with the green haha).

  2. Love this hat on Zara – gorgeous saturated colour, and love the drama. Mike looks handsome as ever – I actually prefer the grey tails, and the matching tie didnt go un-noticed!

  3. This is a stunning hat on Zara Tindall. The colour, style and trim just gorgeous. I love how she wears such different looks. Inspired choice of silver accessories helped make the hat really stand out.
Mike Tindall always looks smart but I do prefer him in a black morning coat.

  4. A truly beautiful hat, and a beautifully cut dress, and the two going together as well = a winning outfit. Not only that but they also both suit Zara extremely well.

  5. This is perhaps my all time favorite hat ever on anyone! It’s bold, but not silly – and astonishingly crafted. ZT carried it off with panache, and it looks amazing. Kudos to whoever attached this securely to her head (would that be her stylist or her hair and make up person who I noticed was credited in several posts this week? She also does an amazing job).

    • It’s the milliner who gets the credit- milliners build in structures to hats so that they securely attach to the head. Typically, it’s a headband, wired band, elastic, comb or combination!
