Day 2: Wendesday, June 19
Day 3: Thursday June 20
Day 4: Friday June 21

Thank you HatQueen for the continual coverage of Hat Christmas! I was traveling and it was too difficult to comment on my phone (didn’t have my laptop), but I appreciated all of the updates. I was a bit disappointed with the royal looks this year, but I’m glad Millinery Instagram helped make up for it with all of the wonderful creations.
My top choices were: Zara’s yellow boater on Day 1, Anne’s silver and slate blue hat on Day 3, Zahra’s white and orange wide brimmed hat on Day 4, and Marie-Chantal’s repeated portrait hat on Day 2.
Thanks, as always, for your detailed coverage, HatQueen, it’s always a pleasure to read, and must take you hours to put together.
I think the Queen’s hats on days 3 and 4 were absolutely perfect Ascot hats – summery, beautiful in a somewhat over the top / frivolous way, and striking enough for a Queen, in the large statement style she wears so well. I’ve been quite disappointed in seeing that Camilla has not worn hats nearly as frequently as the late Queen (for similar types of functions – ie as Queen, her bar for choosing to adopt the formality of a hat seems to be higher than QEII’s, but also, she seems not to be wearing hats now for engagements that she previously would have done herself as Duchess of Cornwall when QEII was still alive and setting the standard). However, when she pulls out the stops, she can wear hats like no other member of the royal family.
I thought all Zara’s hats were fabulous, and they complemented her outfits perfectly, and created beautifully proportioned ensembles, something that hasn’t always been the case with Zara’s hats, however lovely a hat on its own.
I surprise myself by liking the wide bandeaus worn by both Princess Beatrice and the Duchess of Gloucester; usually I find them a bit lacking in presence, but these were both really good substantial pieces in a totally appropriate way.
Biggest disappointment was Lady Sarah Chatto’s floppy straw, which screamed “beach”.
And now Hat Christmas is over. Thank you, HatQueen! There were more than the usual number of boaters this year. Are we ready to declare this style the hat trend of the year?
Thank you, HatQueen for such excellent reporting over the week, and this final wrap-up so nicely laid out is a pleasure to look at!
Thanks for those collages. Zara had a fantastic run. And I noticed quite a lot of boaters – which I quite like so I’m not complaining. This year’s Ascot was wonderful.
My 3 favourites in order are:
Princess Beatrice ‘s pink floral headband
The Queen’s Ladies Day hat with the enormous rose
The Queen’s blue hat day 1 , knocked off the top spot due to the sorting hat shaped crown
Queen Camilla has always been a great hat wearer and as Queen she is not disappointing at all. I normally dislike the York princesses ‘ outfits but recently they too have stepped up their game. Sophie was my disappointment this year , I almost loved her 25th wedding outfit with it’s bridal theme but the long brim on one side didn’t do it for me sadly
