The Imperial couple continued their long-time support of leprosy by visiting a national leper house in Tome City.  Empress Michiko repeated one of her mini-pillbox hats in white, trimmed with a white and slate blue folded fabric bow. The bow coordinated with the lapel on her suit jacket to create another harmonious ensemble.

Japanese Royals Visit Musashino Mausoleums

Yesterday, Crown Prince Naruhito, Crown Princess Masako and Princess Aiko paid a visit to the Musashino and Musashino East Mausoleums. These two mausoleums are the final resting places for the Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun (Crown Prince Naruhito’s grandparents) in Hachioji City, Tokyo. For this visit, Princess Masako wore a black bumper hat with pleated detail around the perimeter of the hat. I thought the pleated detail was a lovely feature that made this hat work quite well on her.

Hitachi Imperial Couple Travel to France

Prince Masahito and Princess Hanako of Hitachi departed for Paris today to attend the Laureate Announcement Ceremony of Praemium Imperiale. Princess Hanako continued her recent streak of chic millinery with this small white brimless hat. The graphic shape, with straight sides, domed crown and diagonal band around the side of the hat, is a rather modern departure for a Japanese princess but I thought it was so interesting. Hanako wears hats with strong shapes very well and I hope this is a trend she will continue.
