Swedish Royals Celebrate National Day

On Saturday, members of the Swedish Royal Family gathered to celebrate their national holiday. The King and Queen kicked off celebrations with a morning visit to Örebro’s County Museum where they viewed an exhibition of the city’s 750 year history. For this visit, Queen Silvia wore a new white calot hat what looks like a teardrop shape. The hat is simply trimmed with a flat white rosette and brown leaves.

Prince Carl Philip attended högvaktsavlösningen (changing of the royal guard) in the Outer Courtyard at the Royal Palace. I believe his uniform and cap are related to his ranking as Captain in the Swedish Royal Navy.

In the evening, the entire royal family processed by carriage from from the Royal Palace to Skansen for an outdoor concert. Princess Estelle joined the procession in folk costume topped with a blue and yellow braided headband.

As they do each year for national day celebrations, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine all wore Swedish national dress complete with distinct folded white caps.

It looks like a wonderful day was hat by the Swedish Royals and it was lovely to see them together before this Saturday’s big wedding.

Wonderful wishes have been pouring in for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their daughter this morning. More literal tributes from The Royal Navy, the Tower Bridge, and the fountains at Trafalgar Square are particularly memorable. A royal salute will happen Monday afternoon.

Swedish Royal Christening

On Saturday, members of the Swedish Royal Family gathered at the Royal Chapel in Stockholm for the christening of Désirée Magnuson, daughter of Gustav Magnuson and Vicky Andren Magnuson (and granddaughter of Princess Christina). For this special event, Princess Christina wore a black and white cocktail hat with a flat, disk base and mass of feathers on top. While I we don’t have a good view of it to know for certain, I don’t think this hat is attractive or flattering to its wearer, two things a royal hat really should be.

Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine attended the christening with their families (Queen Silvia is recovering from a recent skiing injury to her shoulder and was unable to attend). Little Princess Estelle and Princess Leonore were adorable, as usual, in their grosgrain ribbon hairbows.

Name Day Celebration For Swedish Crown Princess

Princess Estelle of Sweden joined in on the celebration of Crown Princess Victoria’s name day this morning in the Royal Palace court yard in Stockholm (Prince Daniel was at another engagement). For these festivities, the royal mother and daughter were dressed in very sweet matching vibrant purple coats. Princess Estelle topped her coat in a white cable knit cap and matching mittens. In a word- adorable!
