Luxembourg Wedding: The Norwegian Royals

Royal Hats Most of the Norwegian Royal Family also attended this wedding. Queen Sonja looked great in a large woven cream pillbox (that would have looked even better without the droopy side netting trim) and matching cream suit.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit must be confused about what actually constitutes a hat or a fascinator because she showed up with a navy Prada headband. It might be a fancy headband but that doesn’t change the reality that it’s still a headband. She wore it back in May this year for King Herald and Queen Sonja’s 75th birthdays (which was a more informal outdoor celebration) and I think this headgear is best saved for more informal events.

Princess Martha Louise, who is infamous for some of her past zany fashion, was the belle of the ball in the gorgeous “Lumos” hat designed by Silvia Fletcher for Lock & Co. in grey. I understand that many would consider this hat more than a little unusual but it looked astounding on her and I absolutely loved it!

Finnish State Visit to Norway

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö (and his wife, Jenni Haukio) arrived in Norway for a state visit today. As per protocol, the Norwegian Royals greeted them in full-hatted splendor.

Queen Sonja wore a periwinkle blue felt hat with high, upturned brim. The hat’s crown and upper layer of the brim are in chocolate felt, which highlights the ‘V’ cutouts in the front of the brim. It’s interesting but the overall vibe is a bit to sci-fi for me.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s calot  designed by Mona Strand, is not working for me, either. I just don’t like the placement so far on the back of her head.

That leaves Mrs. Haukio. I am usually a fan of feathered fascinators and when I first saw it from a distance (first photo above), I liked it. Upon a closeup view, however, it seems a bit twee for a First Lady. I’m afraid I’m going to do the unthinkable and pass on all three hats today! Maybe tomorrow will be better. Sigh.
