Queen Beatrix Reopens Rijksmuseum

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands opened the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam today. The museum has undergone a massive 10-year renovation and threw an equally massive re-opening party today. Beatrix wore a lovely black straw at with wide, upturned double brim and bow at the back. Beatrix last wore this hat, which I suspect was designed by Suzanne Moulijn, exactly two years ago on a visit to Germany. While I’m not usually a big fan of mixing brown and black, the black hat provided some contrast to her very brown outfit and I thought it looked great.

The museum opening was quite a spectacle. I recommend taking three minutes to watch this video of the event.

  1. I rate this hat 6/10. The high transparent brim is a nice idea but the proportion is off and the bow at the back looks like an afterthought. Ciao!

    • The size of this hat is perfect for our queen. And the black looked nice with her brown dresscoat. And the dark color stood out so nice with the fireworks. She looked like a perfect elegant queen. This hat is a 10 out of 10 or a 9 out of 10.

  2. I really love the upturned brims. They make the hat more substantial but don’t shield Beatrix’s (or anyone’s) face. The hats that Beatrix wears without brims look like blowup donuts.

  3. Every time Queen Beatrix wears a hat these days I am reminded about how soon her abdication will happen. I am so proud of what she has done for our country and so proud of how she has changed the monarchy and made it more regal. This hat is one of her traditional hats and the large size shows everyone “Here is the Queen”. It is also nostalgia for the times she has worn it before and all the good she has done. I love this hat and love this Queen.

  4. Thats a pretty drab coat and hat. I love the hat but it needs a different coat than this one. She needs to jazz it up a little to give it some pizaz.
