Birthday of Queen Máxima

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands (née Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti) celebrates her 42nd birthday today. Máxima’s hat style (reviewed here and here) is varied with lots of large brims and bright colours. One of my favourite hats she has worn, however, was a neutral straw smaller hat by Fabienne Delvigne. If it sounds boring it’s not- with white roses and huge curling tails, it is a very striking and dramatic hat. Maxima wore this first in May 2009 when she attended military awards at The Hague, and repeated it (as shown here) in April 2011 on a visit to Berlin. As we celebrate this young queen’s birthday today I can’t help wondering which one of the many hats she has worn is your favourite?

  1. I remember the first time I saw this hat. I was so surprised because it was so unusual for a hat. Then I had time to grow to like it. I think it is a work of art and very beautiful. I like that Maxima wears new designs and experiments to wear new things.

  2. I don’t like the long tails. Without the tails it would have been a beautiful pillbox hat with flowers.

    • I like them. I don’t like ponytails with hats but this hat needs hair out of the way. I can’t think of any other royal woman who could wear this except for Sophie.

    • It’s a lot of curly cues and fussie business on a silly hat. The flowers are pretty and that would have been enough. This princess needs to take advice and remove one thing from each of her hats because they are just to fussie.

  3. This one is such an interesting shape it almost redefines what a hat could be. It has a very nice look from the back and sides. I would rate this one among the best.
