Crown Princess Mary of and Princess Benedikte Denmark opened the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany yesterday. Princess Mary repeated the grey flowered, feathered, netted, fascinator she wore for the Dutch Enthronement in April this year. I love this headpiece and thought it looked great against her patterned dress and white coat (the whole look would have had too much going on without the coat to subdue it, don’t you think?)

Princess Benedikte wore a navy ribbed straw hat with a high, rolled upturned brim trimmed with a large ombre poppy (quite possibly a Susanne Juul design). I just love the modern brim shape on Benedikte and thought the dark blue colour made her blue eyes ‘pop’. I also thought the poppy on the side worked really well on this hat and made it quite summery. Beautiful!

Royal Hats 
Princess Benedikte looks lovely in this hat.
I did not like Mary’s fascinator at the Dudtch Investiture, but like it much better here. Yes, the white coat keeps the outfit from being too busy. I love Benedikte’s hat! We see a lot of very similar hats, some jumbo-sized ones on Max (of course) and others, but the size on this one is just right. I like it as-is, but if it had more embellishment, I would like that too.
Anyone know why Danish princesses are opening a horse show in Germany? Are they patrons of horse or riding associations?
Mary and Benedikte have been invited as part of the Experience Denmark promotion which is taking place in the area right now. I suppose it has been linked to the horse show since both women, Benedikte especially, are renowned horse women.
The hat is simple, but effective.

The fascinator is the same one she used for the Coronation! I like the way different she used each time! stunning! I love it!!!!!
Both ladies look so beautiful! I love Mary’s fascinator, so flattering on her; and my, that blue really does compliment Benedikte’s lovely blue eyes, doesn’t it?
That’s a real nice blue hat on the older princess. I just wish it had some larger flowers or feathers or something on ths side to liven it up a bit. It looks too much like a funeral hat.
I finally found a photo of the side of Princess Benedikte’s hat (see above) and you’re right- a side flower makes this hat even better!
I need Mary’s fascinator in my life! She usually wears hats, so its nice seeing her in something a little different now and again, and this one is lovely on her.
Agreed. This fascinator is just beautiful. I don’t usually like gray hats but this looks so amazing on Princess Mary!
I like Mary’s headpiece better this time than for the Dutch Enthronement. Maybe thanks to the hair down, or the whole look.
