Countess of Wessex at the Sovereigns Parade

The Countess of Wessex presided over the 172nd Sovereigns Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Surrey this morning. Sophie repeated the Jane Taylor oyster straw hat trimmed with an oversize white straw lace bow that she unveiled in June at the 60th anniversary of The Queen’s coronation. We got a much better look at this hat than we did last time and I decided I love the shape of the hat with its flat crown and mushroom brim. I also like the bow much better than I initially did. For it’s debut, Sophie wore this hat with a lace dress and I think the effect of the bow was lost in a sea of lace. The bow is a little bigger than I would like but I think it works on this hat. What do you think?

  1. I know y’all like this one but it is a yawner. This is the fabulous suit she wore for Willy & Kate’s wedding and the hat she wore then is miles and miles better. This one is bore-ring.

  2. With all the time, money and effort on clothing, why can’t these gals wear a slip? Can designers see photos of the clothes and remember to line the skirts? I just don’t get it. Sophie looks wonderful in these neutral shades. Really beautiful

  3. I like this hat on her and it is much better with the bow in the back rather than in the front as worn at the coronation service. Sophie is really coming into her own.

  4. I like this hat a lot. Sophie seems to have MANY cream/beige/oyster hats from Jane Taylor, but they are all lovely. The pairing of Sophie and Jane Taylor seems a match made in heaven – rarely a miss. I like the detailing on her sleeves and belt, but wonder if she’s wearing a slip….with one, I doubt her skirt would ride up as it is here.

  5. I like this hat more with this outfit then with the lace one she wore for the 60th…but I still think the bow is way too big. I would re-vamp the hat and reduce the bow size by 1/3. The crow is very low – the brim is wide – that’s 2 bigger items between the bow and the brim and that’s what is not working for me design wise.
