Catching Up with Princess Beatrix

On Friday, Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands attended the 100th anniversary of Erasmus University. For this event, she wore a golden tan straw hat with flat brim, square crown and side bow.

Later that day, Princess Beatrix also attended the opening of the Royal Dutch Historical Society fall conference held at the Royal Library in The Hague. She repeated one of her giant pillboxes, this one in metallic black sparkle straw with a series of wide bands wrapped around the sides of the hat.

And finally, Princess Beatrix attended the opening of an art exhibition featuring the work of Katinka van Rood (her former art teacher) at Palace het Loo in Apeldoorn. This was my favourite hat of the weekend, an oversize sailor-shaped hat in grey straw with black and white bands around the crown and a black under-brim. Paired with her grey ikat dress, I thought she looked rather smart.

  1. I like the tan golden straw hat the best, the color looks great on her, makes her look warmer and more down to earth then the other tow. The black hat is to harsh on her for her light complexion and the gray is a washout on her. She needs a touch of color that will brighten her up a bit. So really happy to see her out with the people, she is a wonderful queen and I just adore her.

  2. Even thought I can’t see it very well, I may like the first tan straw one the best. Somehow her hats look so ‘heavy’ on her head. solid, flattening. I really don’t know the word i’m after here. The last one is very nice too. The colors go so well together. She has such a lovely smile. .
