Queen Elizabeth and The Duchess of Cornwall were in Essex today to open the new Bernardo’s headquarters in Barkingside (Bernardo’s is one of the largest children’s charities in the UK). The Queen repeated her textured cream hat with blue bow loop trim. It’s not my favourite hat but the photos today show how beautifully it pairs with her Stewart Parvin designed coat. Camilla did not wear a hat but instead, chose a new coat dress designed by Bruce Oldfiend who was himself, a ward of this charity throughout his childhood. I thought this was a lovely touch on Camilla’s part.

I don’t like to criticize the Queen in any way but this hat looks like a birthday cake. Camilla, on the other hand, looks the best I recall her looking, hat or not!
Sorry, I’m not fond of the texture. I call this hat the “fettucine” hat.
I’m very sorry to say this but the hat looks like a preeschool paper mache project.
I’m not overly enthusiastic about this hat, but it does look very nice with her coat. I saw this post yesterday, and could not make up my mind if I liked this hat or not. After thinking about it, I have decided I do like this hat, but I am not in love with it because it reminds me of a frosted cake. Now I’m hungry!
I’m not fond of this hat, but it is a good match for the coat. Shame Camilla didn’t wear one to go with her Bruce Oldfield outfit.
I agree. I like the coat much better than the hat.
I suppose she didn’t wear a hat so that the Queen remains in the central spotlight? She has a pattern of not wearing a hat on engagements completed with the queen.
I like that Camilla wore a Bruce Oldfield coat to Barnardo’s given his connection to the charity. Not crazy about the Queen’s hat – looks more suitable for Easter.
They look so lovely. I do like the hat very much.
I find this hat attractive. Whenever one creates a hat to match a coat but yet uses material different from the coat itself, one runs the risk of clashing: in some photographs, this coat and hat go perfectly; in others the hat and are just a little off since the colors/materials are similar but yet “not quite.”
Considering all the comparable outfits (primarily light-colored bouclé) with matching hats by Angela Kelly that the Queen wears right now, I think this hat is a welcome change, although it shows why using the coat fabric to make the hat might be a safer bet. The blue swirls tie in the dress nicely.
Camilla should have worn a hat.
Agree re Camilla. Second joint outing with HM with no hat. I fear for the hat wearing future…..
