Duchess of Cambridge Goes to Scout Camp

Yesterday, the Duchess of Cambridge visited Great Tower Scout Camp near Newby Bridge in Cumbria, close to Lake Windermere. Despite snow and cold temperatures, Kate participated in campfire building and cookery and watched the scouts climb a rope course. She wore the Tweed Lindsey Cap in Ivy Dogtooth from the Really Wild Clothing Company to keep stylishly warm on this adventure. It’s a smart hat for camping, don’t you think?!

Birthday of Grand Duchess Maria Teresa

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg (née María Teresa Mestre y Batista-Falla) celebrates her 57th birthday today. Maria Teresa often wears dramatic, larger than life hats- one of my favourites is this Fabienne Delvigne creation she wore for Luxembourg National Day in June 2006. I can only imagine that the woman who was brave enough to venture out in this this lime green swirl of hat madness must be a hoot to hang out with in private. Happy Birthday, Grand Duchess!

Danish Royals Open Aquarium

Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik attend the opening of The Blue Planet aquarium today. The new aquarium, built on Amager coast in Taarnby, Copenhage, is Northern Europe’s largest, housing over 20,000 fish and other sea creatures. Margrethe repeated her infamous blue Teletubby hat,  a hat best left at the bottom of the ocean in my opinion.

Duchess of Cornwall in Canterbury

Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall attended the installation of the new Archbishop of Canterbury today. For this historic service at Canterbury Cathedral, Camilla repeated her Philip Treacy designed royal purple wide brimmed, feathered hat. This hat must be one of her favourites- she has previously worn it on Christmas Day at Sandringham, on a visit to Denmark last year, for the Commonwealth Observance Services in 2012 and in 2010, and for the Emir of Qatar’s state visit in 2010.

I love this hat on Camilla- the angled brim and vibrant colour look so great on her. I do however wonder- how many times should a royal wear a hat before it’s retired? Should this one stay in Camilla’s wardrobe or should it be retired?

British Royals Celebrate 150th Anniversary of the London Underground

Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and The Duchess of Cambridge visited the Baker Street Underground Station this morning to mark the 150th anniversary of the London Underground.

The Queen wore a hat in the same cream bouclé fabric as her coat designed by Angela Kelly. This one had an upturned brim, black feather trim and interesting divided crown (in a very similar shape to the magenta and black one she’s worn a few times recently).   The Queen wore it in October last year for the state visit of the President of Indonesia and in 2012,  on a visit to Leeds during part of her Jubilee tour.

Kate repeated a black Whiteley designed black velour beret loop and feather trim. She last wore this hat back on January 8, 2011 for the wedding of friends; paired with her beautiful green coat with black trim, I thought this hat was a knock-out.

I love when the Queen invites Kate along on engagements- it makes for a fantastic double hat day! Which one of these hats did you prefer?
