Cambridge Couple at Country Wedding

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Price Harry attended the wedding of their close friends, Lucy Mead and Charlie Budgett, today in Gloucestershire. For these nuptials, Kate repeated her embellished black beret, trimmed with wool felt blooms. It is a fine hat but I think her Missoni coat would have been better accessorized by one of her navy hats (this one or this one). There’s something about the light coat and sombre wool hat that doesn’t jive for me. What do you think?

  1. I always appreciate that when Kate goes to a wedding she dresses in a way that doesn’t attract attention to herself.

    • I agree. If I’m not mistaken, she has not debuted a new outfit or hat while attended a wedding but instead, worn something we have already seen her in (again, likely to detract attention to herself).

  2. I’m always surprised when people wear black, even only in accessories, to a wedding; I guess I’m old-fashioned. I agree that a navy hat would have been better with the blue coat. I wish in the U.S. we would start wearing hats to weddings and other more formal events, too — perhaps if all us Royal Hat fans start wearing them, we’ll start a trend?

    • I have been wearing hats to weddings for almost two decades and would LOVE for some of you to join me! It gets a little lonely being the only one. I think it would be marvelous if we all wear a hat to church for Easter this year. What do you say?

  3. I agree, I am not a fan of the black with the blue. It doesn’t look bad but navy would be better. My vote is for the flowered one since she has previously worn the other combination. The flower would also carry through from the floral print of her dress.

  4. Agreed. Looks as though she wore this coat with your second “this one” above. Should have worn the blue again this time.
