Japanese Royals Visit Musashino Mausoleums

Yesterday, Crown Prince Naruhito, Crown Princess Masako and Princess Aiko paid a visit to the Musashino and Musashino East Mausoleums. These two mausoleums are the final resting places for the Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun (Crown Prince Naruhito’s grandparents) in Hachioji City, Tokyo. For this visit, Princess Masako wore a black bumper hat with pleated detail around the perimeter of the hat. I thought the pleated detail was a lovely feature that made this hat work quite well on her.

  1. Down to her waist I like Masako’s look for this solemn event. Trim but sober hat, nicely draped bodice and simple but appropriate jewels. Below the waist it goes into a court dress style that I no longer understand. Dignified but bland
