Japanese Royals Received by Mexican President

Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko of Japan continued their trip to Mexico today in the nation’s capital where they were received by President Enrique Pena Nieto during a welcoming ceremony at the National Palace. Princess Kiko wore a hat I do not believe we have seen her wear before.Made of the same butter yellow patterned silk as her suit, this bowler style hat featured a rolled brim and squared crown wrapped in a triple pleated band of silk. This is a hat shape we have seen before on Princess Kikoand I think I might have liked this particular hat more if it had been made of straw instead of the same fabric as her suit.

Later in the day, Prince Akishino laid a wreath at the Altar a la Patria monument at Chapultepec Park. Princess Kiko topped her white suit with a very smart navy and white hat. I prefer the shape of this hat – the larger scale of the navy brim works well on petite Kiko. Two toned hats can be very difficult to balance but this one is hit the mark and is easily, my favourite of the day. What do you think of Princess Kiko’s two hats in Mexico City today?

  1. It seems the hats like the yellow one sit down so far on the head that it is difficult to see her face. That is what I dislike about the yellow hat. I wish we had more pics of the white and navy one, but it is attractive from what we can see.

    • I agree Jean. It looks like the yellow hat is too big for her and thus sits too low on her face. I do love the outfits though.

  2. I also am not fond of the shape of the yellow hat although I do like the two suits that Princess Kiko wore. Very much under stated sophistication.

  3. I am really liking the butter yellow suit, beautifully tailored and lovely fabric etc but not so taken with the hat……and I think I have learned from this little snippet of their trip to Mexico, that Princess Kiko probably does look better in a hat with a larger brim. Thanks.

  4. I like the outfits worn by the royal couple. They look regal and dignified. As for comparing the 2 hats worn by the Princess, there is no contest. The navy blue and white hat is more elegant and regal, and works well with the crisp white suit.

  5. I do not like the shape of the yellow hat at all and that shape seems popular with the Japanese.
Hard to see the white and navy hat.
