Last Monday, Princess Akiko of Mikasa attended the 12th annual People’s Self-Defense Officials Awards honoring distinguished service in the Self-Defence Forces of Japan. For this ceremony, Princess Akiko wore a smart cream hat with square crown and short, upturned brim trimmed in a mint band to match her suit.

The hat comes way too far down on the forehead. The outfit is much better than some that the Japanese royal ladies wear.
The second “Princess Aikio” should be “Princess Akiko.” 🙂
The Japanese royal family have a very restrained aesthetic in their clothes and millinery but I find it attractive in its simplicity and quiet elegance. However, I don’t want it to become too widespread. Variety is the spice of life. This is a pretty outfit for a young woman. She looks well turned out.
I love everything about the way she is dressed….her hat is so perfect with the matching band and the suit is very chic. One thing about the IJF, the ladies always dress like ladies……….sometimes it might be a bit boring yet it is always chic and elegant. This young princess looks really elegant, and the pearl necklace and brooch are the bling.
You read my mind elizabethmclaughline42. I love the mint color.
I agree!
I like this style better than that of their mum; all those saucer hats.
Can you imagine one of the Japanese royal ladies wearing a hat that Camilla wears or Princess Michael or one of Maxima’s picture hats? What a change that would be from the same old same old they always wear. Their hats are so very, very conservative. They all look the same, just different colors. Mikasa does look neat and totally put together with this hat.
Love this look. I’m a big fan of skirt suits and I think the Japanese ladies so often do a great job with them. I think this hat is a great shape for the princess and coordinates very well with the suit.
I am also a big fan of skirt suits and this one is very chic. I like the way the neckline is so that the necklace shows just right, these ladies in the JIF are always so elegant and it is a pleasure to see them.
