Princess Beatrix Opens Health Care Facility

Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands officially opened a new building at the Landrijt nursing home yesterday in Eindhoven. For this engagement, she repeated a navy straw hat with stacked double crown and upfolded brim (the brim has a distinctive ‘v’ cutout on the side you can see here, the first time Princess Beatrix wore this hat). I know this is a common hat shape for Beatrix but to me, it looks like the side profile of a tug boat. What do you see when you look at this hat?

  1. This is the type of hat she traditionally wears and on her it looks fine. It probably isn’t a hat that most people would wear, but on her it always looks appropriate and it is a look we identify with her.

  2. I like this outfit including the hat, which looks great with the unusual V-shaped cut-out in the link. This is not a hat most people could wear, but somehow the former Dutch Queen seems to carry off these huge hats very well. She seems to be such a lovely lady with such a warm smile.

  3. Being new to this website, but seeing numerous photos of Princess Beatrix when she was Queen and now, this hat is very similar and suits her so very well. She always has been appropriately dressed and I wouldn’t expect any less now.

  4. Funny – I never would have seen a tug boat in this had you not mentioned it – I do like this hat and her whole outfit – she looks great!
