Queen Margrethe in Egedal

Queen Margrethe visited Egedal in North Zealand yesterday, where she officially opened the new Town Hall and health centre. For this day of inaugurations, she repeated her red and tweed wool hat and matching suit. It’s a hat we’ve seen a few times on Margrethe before and there’s no doubt, red is a great colour on her. While I do see the royal appeal of matching hats and ensembles (it is very polished and queenly), I think too much matchy-matchy is a little boring. So I ask you, dear readers, what do you think of this matched hat and suit? Does it err on the side of polished or boring?

  1. She is Queen M and whatever she wears is okay with her and with me……..is has a strong personality and so do her choices in clothes and hats, I love this hat and the band, It’s great to see some recycling among royals and she does it with a flair……love her!

  2. This is the kind of outfit HM always wears, so no surprise there. The band on the hat has me flummoxed. It looks like it wasn’t placed properly, and is too high on the crown in the picture where she is looking up. I know that she is always adding and switching out the trim on her hats, but I think this hat could have done with some judicious editing. The trim on the brim and the color was enough to tie it in with the skirt. Either a thinner band or none at all would have been an improvement. Have to agree about the brooch and earrings. The tones do not coordinate with the suit and hat at all. They are fighting with it. A darker blue might have worked better.

  3. Had Queen Margrethe stuck to the matchy-matchy scheme, she wouldn’t have chosen that blue brooch. It does jar. The matchy-matchy part of the outfit, however, looks fine: polished and coordinated.

  4. The color of her hat and jacket are perfect for her since she is so fair. The closure of her jacket with a single button that appears to be right under her bust just looks strange. The turquoise broach looks out of place.

  5. I agreed with Jane, the blue brooch really jars. Queen Margarethe’s wardrobe must be one of the smallest of any Queen. Frankly I find most of it boring by now…..

  6. Overall, I would call this a “fine.” But I do agree with you that smaller hats work better on her with her hairstyle.

  7. The colours are fine. The fit of the suit buttoned at the waist is not fine. Her clothes always seem oddly closed at the waist and often too long. I am not ok with the blue jewellery.
