Queen Elizabeth in Pink at Holyport

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Holyport College this morning. The Queen repeated her pink straw cloche with wide, diagonal wrap around the crown in the same pink tweed as her coat (one of Angela Kelly’s signature shapes). Today’s photos give us a great view of this hat; while I appreciate the deconstructed nature of its design, it still looks unfinished to me. What do you think?

  1. I love it! Where can I get one? (I don’t think I would wear it with black gloves and shoes, however. {{shudder}} Definitely winter white!

    • It is designed by Angela Kelly which means it is not publicly for sale, I’m afraid. However, any custom milliner should be able to make you one!

  2. Oh I don’t mind the hat at all, I think it quite a nice outfit too. But I think it feels totally wrong for the end of November – Its actually geting chilly here and this is such a springy look.

  3. I quite like this hat (and all of AK’s hats of this particular shape), but I am tired of the ill-fitting coat. Although your pictures above don’t show the problem, whenever viewed from the front, one sees a coat slouched to one side, always to the Queen’s left side. I’m also puzzled that someone has chosen the same outfit for a Garden Party in late May and for an outing in late December. While the temperatures might be uncharacteristically similar, late spring and late fall don’t don’t seen equally suitable to light pink. Even though I like the hat, this outfit deserves to be retired.

  4. I agree with you, Hat Queen. Often I think Angela Kelly over does it. This time I want just a bit more with that spunky little bunch of loops. Perhaps a ribbon out of the same material and width as the loops circling the hat? or a flower in the center of the loops. Not sure what, but I want more!

  5. I quite like it, but am a bit puzzled at it’s being described as a cloche..?? I had a look through your hat types to check, and although I thought you had discussed cloches, I cannot find that item. Please can you point me in the right direction? And tell me what makes this hat a cloche – please?

  6. Oh I think the opposite – I think it’s perfect the way it is and would not add a thing to it. It’s a ‘delish’ pinky mauve on her (least it looks that shade in the photos).
