Princess Hisako Attends Flower Exhibition

Last week, Princess Hisako of Takamado visited a chrysanthemum exhibition at Daikakuji Temple in Kyoto. For this visit, she wore a petite black wool boater hat trimmed in a band and bow of the same metallic fabric as her suit. This fabric looks like it time traveled straight from the 1980s but as it brought both colour and sparkle to this ensemble (something we seldom see on the Imperial royal ladies), I’m going hold my reservations silent. The boater shape of this hat is quite smart on Princess Hisako, isn’t it?

  1. I think it is more of a blue color. The blue color is evident outdoors and looking closer at the “purple” picture, I can see traces of the same blue. It possibly could have been the flash from the camera. Many photographers still use flash photography and develop from film. Anyway I really like her outfit and the hat really suits her. On a side note, I really like her hair. She is a very elegant lady.

  2. I like the hat. It’s not a saucer or a bumper (close though!). And, I agree with Bristol. The difference in lighting is astounding. It looks like two different outfits!

  3. I do like the hat, simple but attractive. Your photos show the enormous importance of lighting! The suit colour looks absolutely different in the two photos on my computer (purple above and blue below).

  4. She sparkles on a dull day. I could do without the “matchiness” of the hat and suit, but altogether it’s a breath of fresh air.

  5. I don’t mind the sparkly fabric. I like the shape of the hat on Princess Hisako, and I love her use of jewelry with this outfit. A great overall look. It also appears she is really enjoying herself, if her lovely smile is any indication.

  6. It is a cute little hat and it looks good on her. The sparkly purple is kind of busy, but it is purple, so I will not say anything else about it. She looks very happy, even on a rainy day. I do like that aside from a sparkly fabric, the Imperial ladies are generally restrained with jewelry and makeup. It is a nice change from some less restrained royals elsewhere.

    • This comment is long after the fact, but the Princess looks so stylish, and has her own unique style which is becoming and modern. I personally like the boater hat; it has its own look of sophistication. I love her hair style, and her makeup is flawless.
