Queen Máxima Opens Exhibition

Yesterday, Queen Máxima opened an exhibition at the Groninger Museum entitled “”The Secret of Dresden”. For this event, she topped her chocolate suit with a large felt hat in the same shade. The large brim of the hat was upturned on one side and the squared crown was slightly flared at the top. It is a hat with very strong lines that Máxima carries off very well. A monochrome outfit such as this can be difficult to pull off but the open neck of the suit and the pearl jewelry lightened the look. If this somber-hued ensemble was chosen as a quiet nod to Queen Fabiola’s funeral (which I suspect it was), it was a beautiful choice for Máxima to make.

  1. I think this hat shape, color, and brim style is perfect on Queen Maxima. Brown is a hard color for most people to wear but she seems to work it well. The jewels are beautiful and help to brighten the overall effect of her outfit. I just wish that she wouldn’t keep bleaching her hair. It wrecks the hair and her natural color suits her better. Just as others have said, the makeup was a bit too heavy.

  2. I think this is a great look for her. Love the brown with the deep red nail polish. I also think the makeup could be scaled back, though. Perhaps a strong red lip and minimize the rest?

  3. I absolutely adore this shape and size of hat for Maxima. And if Maxima’s gonna do monochrome, this is how to do it; glad the color doesn’t blend in with her skin and hair for once. Nice to know I wasn’t the only the one who thought the makeup was a bit heavy.

  4. Love the hat, and she does look great in that color. I don’t generally think of brown as a festive color, but she makes it look like she’s going to a party. I like her hair pulled back instead of down, and that looks great with the hat and the dressy suit. I have to agree with the makeup though: she is a lovely lady and she doesn’t need that much. It’s just too heavy.

  5. The neckline is way too deep. A summer dress maybe but not this outfit. That ruined the look completely. The hat alone is fine. The makeup is off.
Overall I do not like the outfit.

  6. Really quite a gorgeous hat, and I like the entire outfit, every thing beautiful yet the make-up, whoa, you could scrape that off with knife and still have lots left over, she is wearing to much make-up, over done I would say.

    • She can be pretty heavy handed on her bronzer – I’d like to see her with a more natural look – but agree, this color frock and hat is nice on her

      • Thank you for letting me know, yes that is some heavy bronzer, yet the outfit and hat are spectacular, I would so love that hat and the pearls to go with it..lololo

    • I agree with everything you said elizabethmclaughline42. The Queen is beautiful, so she doesn’t need all this slap on her face!
