Queen Margrethe Presents Military Award

Queen Margrethe of Denmark visited the Royal Guards barracks in Copenhagen yesterday to present the annual “Queen’s Clock” award to the ‘best’ guardsman of the regiment (this year’s recipient was Guards Marquard Frederik Nielsen). The Queen made the parade all the more exciting for us royal hat fans by wearing a new hat! Made of red felt, this hat features a tall, domed and slightly fluted crown and short brim, upfolded on one side. The brim is trimmed in black piping and the hat is finished with a band around the base of the crown that ends in a bow at the side. While the red and black colour scheme is a classic one, the shape of this hat is slightly quirky. As Queen Margrethe’s hats tend to the quirky and creative, this one fits right in. I’m not fond of the bulbous crown but the brim frames the Queens face beautifully and the contrasting colours are balanced, something not always easy to achieve in a two-toned hat. What do you think, dear readers, about this new hat?

  1. It’s good to see Queen Margrethe of Denmark in a new hat, and she looks good in black and red. The crown suggests some influence of Angela Kelly, and if the crown wasn’t so Kellyish, I would like it a lot. Her outfit doesn’t seem to have been well-styled and looks like she threw a whole lot of oddments on.

  2. I love this hat because it is typical Daisy. At first glance it looks pretty staid but a second look shows it interest. The beautiful curving brim, the high crown and the colour. I really love red and black.

I am not a fan of thes particular boots but perhaps she has a reason for wearing them, or perhaps she’s just taking a walk on the wild side with such way out boots to go with her ensemble and creating a little quirkyness.

  3. I usually don’t like this lady’s hats but I do rather like this one. I think her boots spoil her look.

  4. I think the Queen looks good in red, and I quite like the hat, though I would have preferred the crown of it to be a little less bulbous. Those boots are awful!

  5. I think this is a great new hat for Margarethe and agree it frames her face very well. As others have commented, not liking the boots, but hey, as long as HM is happy, I think that’s what really matters.

  6. lovely hat! I can see it on several royal ladies and I NEVER say that about Daisy’s hats! Hope she gets one in every color!

  7. Apart from a few unfortunately very memorable hats that are funa and quirky the first and maybe second time ones sees them (Teletubby hat, I’m thinking of you…) actually I often think Margrethe’s hats look like the sensible end of the range of hats you’d find in a department store – boring straw with a fabric band, etc. This, however, is a Proper Hat, one that is interesting, great combination of colours, doesn’t make her suffer from the hat baldness to which she is prone, altogether a winner for me!

    • I read somewhere that she has a lot of trouble with her feet and that’s why she has to wear such ugly shoes.

      The hat is kinda cute!

  8. Good job, Your Majesty. Only a wee bit quirky, but it is a lovely hat. Very nice shape and colour.
Pleasant blend and accent with the entire outfit.

I’m sure the soldiers appreciate a hat that stands out amongst the sea of uniforms. This way they at least get a glimpse of their Queen.

  9. Love it! This frames her face beautifully, she looks delightful. Red is a great color for her. I can overlook the crown because the rest of it is so charming. It is great to see her wearing something we haven’t seen before.
