Swedish Visit to South Korea Day 2

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Prince Daniel arrived in South Korea yesterday and began their four day visit. Today, the royal couple laid a memorial wreath at the National Cemetery and met with President Park Geun-Hye. For these events, Crown Princess Victoria tucked her large fascinator of blush pink feathers and crystal beads behind her right ear, nestled into her chignon. As far as fascinators go, this one is fairly attractive with lovely movement and textural variation. I do not like, however, its inclusion with this outfit. While each piece of Princess Victoria’s ensemble is lovely (drop earrings, lace skirt, silk blouse, star necklace, white gloves, pleated coat), they do not relate to each other at all. The fascinator thus becomes, in this case, the crowning explanation point on an outfit that is all wrong.

  1. As fascinators go, and I admit I am not a great fan of them, this one is alright, but I think it really belongs with a cocktail dress and not for this formal event, and it would look better with a softer hairdo. I like all the separates by themselves, but I don’t think they all work thrown together.

  2. Yes, everyone gets it wrong once in awhile, yet there is really no excuse for this outfit, she has the means for anyone in the world to help her and put together outfits for any occasion, and by now she knows what looks good on her and what doesn’t ……………….yet what the heck happened with this outfit? So mismatched and the color is so wrong for her coloring, and that hair pulled back is so harsh and cold looking on her………..what happened to my pretty crown princess I ask.

  3. Yes! I’ve realised – that’s it. Take the coat away, and you’ve got a lovely ensemble. Maybe a blazer or cropped jacket in a cream colour, and it’d look that bit more pulled together.
I still wish they’d relax their hairstyles, it looks so harsh with her strong jawline. Someone’s once upon a time obviously told her to keep her hair away from her face because it looks smarter, and she’s taken it to heart and run with it, to the exclusion of other styles.

    • Great point. I think replacing the coat would do wonders with this outfit. Both times she has worn it, this coat has not been styled well. I think it probably needs a simple cream sheath dress and a large cream hat!

      • I agree HatQueen. I love this coat, but she hasn’t worn it with the right other pieces yet. The structured shoulders of the coat would be balanced best by a brimmed hat. It would look good teamed with a simple cream dress as you suggested. The Crown Princess sometimes puts too many things on at once and perhaps she should recall Coco Chanel’s famous quote: “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.”

  4. I like this fascinator on CP Victoria. As for the outfit, the only item I’d change would be the blouse or simply remove the bow. It’s too fussy. I like the neutral color palette and mixed textures.

  5. My first and main grump is/was with the stark white gloves, but then I saw the men either side of Victoria wearing them, perhaps for some cultural/protocol rule, so I shall refrain from commenting on those. However…. the rest is just as bad!!! The blouse and the fascinator work nicely together but then add this strangely worked coat and the lace skirt and the look becomes just too fussy and clashing. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

  6. Even a crown princess can get it wrong sometimes. Fascinator out of place with this outfit and the occasion I think. Color not flattering at all on Victoria. I don’t like that tie bow on the blouse either. It is limp and sad looking. The coat and the dress just don’t go together at all.

  7. A royal appearance abroad in these formal circumstances is definitely not one which any fascinator will prove a good idea.

  8. Such a busy look…and the scraped back hair is disappointing after a day of loose hair and a really well done up style in a formal situation a few days ago. Unfortunately this severe look accentuates her strong jawline and doesn’t flatter her at all. She could take page from her mother’s or sister’s style book. The rest of the look isincredibly random and the fascinator makes no sense at all.

  9. Ehhh, I kind of like it purely *because* it’s so mishmash. They’re ll the same tones in the same colour family, just different textures.
But I do wish she’d wear her hair down more often, she looks far too severe with it scraped back (unforch, her strong jawline needs a lot of softening!) and blimey, does Daniel need to loosen up his ‘scary doctor’s assistant’ look with that slicked back hair… *shudder*

As an aside, she happens to look rather…fuller in the face, doesn’t she? *cough* *cough* Just sayin’…

  10. Looks complicated. Too much. Would like to see her hair looser and cleaned at the neck. Her husband desperately needs a new hairstyle. Wonder why they do not realize this.
I wonder if the entire outfit would look better in a delicate shade of blue?

    • It’s not the colors, although mismatched, that’s the problem, it’s the entire ungepacht mess of styles of which any two don’t go together. And I agree, Daniel’s haircuts when he first started dating Princess Victoria were so much better (and hotter!).
