Queen Elizabeth was at Newbury Racecourse yesterday to cheer on the debut race of her filly, Ring of Truth. Her Majesty stood out in her magenta sailor style hat with lavender-grey straw underbrim, trimmed with slim straw leaves, white fabric tulips and faux pearl berries.
The first time we saw this hat (on the same day, one year ago), I was wowed by the colour and underwhelmed by the spindly embellishment. A year has only intensified these sentiments and the sight of this hat today left me desperate to send it for a trimming renovation. Thankfully, Queen Elizabeth’s horse fared better than the lacklustre trim on her hat, placing second in today’s race.

Royal Hats 
Love the color, but I think the underside just looks unfinished. The gray looks like interfacing to me! These outfits have become her uniform so as long as she’s out and about, I’m a happy camper!
I love the colors and even don’t mind the trim so much, but like JamesB said, I’m really over this severe shape. Too flat and squared off . . .

I don’t really mind it to be honest, though I’m a bit over the shape – enough already! The pink is fab, and the decoration doesn’t upset me, at least it’s a bit more sparing than Ange normally does. Not a wow, but not a dud either…

Nice color on her but ick on the hat – I am not a fan of this ‘Spanish’ style cowboy hat (which is what it reminds me of vs a sailor hat)

That would explain the lavender-gray under brim and perhaps the general theory of the hat’s trim. I don’t find this hat as objectionable as others do, but then I don’t mind these flat-brimmed hat as much as others seem to.
Snug Harbor, thank you for posting the pic of her dress. It would be lovely with the coat. Anybody notice the mark on the back of Elizabeth’s hand? Either she went partying the night before or she had recently had an I.V.

I love the hat. And I think Her Majesty looks so happy and excited, what she’s wearing seems irrelevant. Lovely to see her so animated.

I agree, the colour is gorgeous. I like the shape. But why a lavender-grey underbrim? It isn’t a flattering colour at all and very much at odds with the vibrant magenta. The trim also seems unrelated to the rest of the hat.
Yes well. A very severe shape for a lovely lady. I would like to see some curve either in the brim or the top of the hat.
