Empress Michiko, who is Honorary President of the Japanese Red Cross Society, presented the Florence Nightingale Medal Awards on Wednesday in Tokyo. For this ceremony, the Empress repeated the white saucer hat with blue twist trim we saw her first début last week. This event gives us a better view of the hat, which I think is a wonderful compliment to her slate blue and white suit.

Designer: my guess is Akio Hirata

Good hat and suit combination for the Empress. I’m amused an award recipient has a wedge cut out of her pillbox in the first photo. Princesses Kiko, Hanako, Nobuko, and Hisako also attended the ceremony wearing hats. I like Princess Nobuko’s calot the best of the princesses.

I agree with what Avery says: August 9, 2015 at 2:29 pm. Thanks for the link. Princess Nobuko’s calot is really sweet and it’s my favourite hat here too. I wonder why that award recipient has a wedge cut out of her pillbox? Strange indeed!
This is quite a cute hat, and it works in well with the outfit. I like the white and slate blue combination.
The hat becomes her, and the suit, to which it is so well related, is perfect.
