Queen Máxima attended in the 50th anniversary of the the Moluccan community in Alphen aan den Rijn today. For this celebration, she repeated her brown camel vagabond style hat with grosgrain ribbon tied in a multi-looped bow at the base of the hat’s crown. The informal nature of the hat was a good match for this particular event and made a chic addition to her tan and grey dress and coat.

I totally agree with the comments made by Sandra, and though I do like the hat as such, it would indeed look better in combination with colors as suggested by Jake.
Oh, dearie me, no. This ensemble doesn’t work is so many ways. Although I like the tan, I have no idea why the skirt is grey, why the dress finishes just above her knee (such an unflattering length for anyone), why it’s belted around the middle, why her slip is showing (okay, I know it’s the bottom of the skirt, but …), why she doesn’t have her arms in the coat … and why she has worn such high heels and platform soles to an event where she is *towering* over the people she’s come to meet. If there ever was a time for a court heel and a small hat/headpiece, this was it. I’m not even sure if she is wearing a dress or separates.
Totally agree with every word you said…………could not have said it better………..this is a complete disaster!
I fully agree with all your comments sandra.
I agree with what sandra says: September 17, 2015 at 10:00 pm. I don’t like any of the clothes the Queen wore here.
I think this hat will always be slightly tainted for me thanks to her wearing it to Prinsjesdag one year and it was not appropriate at all for that occasion (at least in my opinion). I think it could be a great hat for her at these more informal events, but she really needs to work some color in with it; every time she has worn this hat, she has gone with browns, beiges, and other drab colors which do nothing for her or the hat. While it may be getting too casual for a royal appearance, this hat would pair well with denim, especially jeans, a white blouse, and brown boots, or something in a forest green, navy blue, or maroon as well.
Jake:
Spot on………..why wear this hat to more formal events, it is for jeans, white blouse and boots, and a horse to go riding. And why wear this hat to Prinsjesdag of all places……….good grief.
At first I was looking and greatly enjoying the posts from hatqueen, and I had an opinion or two, however Queen Maxima always looks joyful. She has the most sincere smile. I cannot bust her on the clothes. She is beautiful. Also she looks like she is genuine and justhaving fun with all her events. She is becoming a favorite. Great big thanks to HatQueen for a terrific website.
Oh dear. I have to agree with the comments about the coat. Either wear a coat or wear a shawl, but let’s not confuse the two. The empty arms flapping off of it make the look a bit frightening and weird.
Now to the subject at hand, the hat is quite lovely and its informal look works with her hair down.
Like this last time we saw it on her and again today as well — but oh I wish she would not wear her coats like shawls around her shoulders.
I like the mix of textures, and at least she’s not wearing it with a formal dress. But it’s a lot of bleurgh. And I want to stop that coat falling off her shoulders – isn’t it driving her mad?!
Queen Máxima has got it all wrong I think this time, with this brown camel vagabond style hat with a cheap-looking grosgrain ribbon, and the drab tan and grey dress and coat does nothing for her, and is at serious odds with her bright, bubbly personality.
Once again, TiarasRUs, you’ve hit the nail smack-dab on the head! If my face was as radiant and glowing as hers, (and it ISN’T!) I wouldn’t dream of hiding it under a big floppy brim, especially with such dreary colors! Sorry, it’s just me.
My opinion is definitely this as well TiarasrUs.
