King Philippe and Queen Mathilde welcomed Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and his wife Emine Erdogan on state visit this morning in Brussels. For the occasion, Queen Mathilde wore her royal blue calot hat trimmed with a small spray of dark blue feathers. The hat, made from the same chevron woven silk as her coat and dress, might be an overly prim piece on its own but combines with the ensemble to create a streamlined and elegant overall look. I’m not always a fan of outfits in the same fabric from head to toe but in this case, it works very well.

Nice, very nice. Not blown away by that coat but with such a great shade of royal blue all attention should go to that gorgeous color. So it works.
Very, very elegant. There is nothing else for me to say!
As always the Queen looks beautiful and regal!
A beautiful outfit and hat from an always-elegant queen. She looks serene and confident, and the outfit projects exactly those qualities. I agree that her new, longer hairstyle is very flattering. A soft updo adds so much polish, I think.
Anne you hit the nail on the head!
Yawn. It’s so boring but I guess she had to wear something that fit in with the other lady.
This beautiful color looks fabulous when worn from head to toe. While looking back at the hat’s first outing two years ago, I noted that Queen Mathilde’s hairstyle today is more flattering (both to her and to the hat) than it was in 2013.
Sophisticated, calm and rather nice.
I agree with you that this ensemble, although of the same material, was elegant. I also think it was a nod to a simpler, more modest look out of respect to the Moslem guests, which was appropriate and gracious.
