Danish Royals on Day 2 of Indonesian Visit

Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark were officially welcomed to Indonesia by President Joko Widodo and his wife Iriana Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta today. For the occasion, Queen Margrethe repeated her pale blue straw hat with round crown and lattice woven ‘slice’ shaped diagonal brim. The hat is trimmed in a spray of pink silk cockscomb flowers and green feather leaves that echo the print in the Queen’s dress and coat. The first time we saw this hat, Queen Margrethe paired it with the same dress and a bright pink jacket– today’s pairing with her flowing coat creates a much softer look where the trim on the hat balances beautifully with the coat and dress. For a royal visit in a tropical climate, I think this ensemble hits just the right note and Queen Margrethe looks fantastic in it.

  1. Queen Margrethe looks good, but it seems she has stolen her look from Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother! This happens to be one of her best hats. The jewels are a good addition to her look.

  2. This entire ensemble is really lovely, and the hat is SO much better than Margrethe’s usual prosaic (the perfect word someone else has used) choices. A very pleasant change.

  3. I agree with most other commenters here: this is definitely of Margrethe’s best looks in a long time, if quite possibly ever! A great hat shape and color for her, and yes, this outfit is most appropriate for the location and creating a soft edge with this hat. Three cheers! The Indonesian President also wears this fez-style hat very well. A good day for hats all around!

  4. Queen Margrethe’s tropical inspired hat looks great on her. I like the colour of the pale blue straw hat and it is very flattering to her colouring. I like the lattice woven ‘slice’ shaped diagonal brim, because it really suits her face shape, and she is tall enough to carry off those wider brimmed hat styles. It is good to see her wearing such a bright print, instead of the boring beiges she so often wears for daywear. This is a lot of print, but she is tall and slim enough to be able to pull off this look.

  5. She really looks as lovely as I have seen her lately in non-formal clothing. Margarethe is so artistic that it surprises me when her day wear is so prosaic. But this is a wonderful look for her.

  6. WOW! This was a shocker! Can’t recall Queen Margrethe trying out such a feminine ensemble before. This is a pretty, floaty, lighthearted look, a really refreshing and welcome change to her wardrobe akin to those favoured by the late Queen Mum. Queen Margrethe could have gone in a different direction with her hat, but the brim has just the right measure of sauciness and style, lightened with the floral spray. I can see the hat being very versatile with a variety of different trims. Well done, Queen M!

  7. The outfit is pretty and brings back memories of how becoming flower designs can be. I think the hat might be nicer if it was a bit smaller.
