On Monday, Princess Beatrix was in Utrecht to take part in the 10th anniversary celebration of the interfaith network, Freedom Connected. For this event, she repeated a navy straw bumper hat adorned with shiny braided trim wrapped around the crown and extended down in three stripes on the back of the brim. It’s a fairly standard hat shape and size for Princess Beatrix, given a little variation on this outing by a hat pin that was pushed in a little too far, leaving a rounded indent on the side of the hat.

I like it and good colour.
I am not a fan of the style, when I saw the first photo my initial thought was : “A blue loaf of cheese!”
Princess Beatrix’s oversized bumper hats do not appeal to me. I do like her in blue though. I would have thought her dresser or maids would have been more careful with an expensive hat when inserting hatpins, or perhaps she stuck it in too far herself and was in a hurry to get dressed, and that is how it got dinged by the hatpin.
Now here’s a blue hat! Love the shade.
I agree with you TiarasRUs. The only thing I can say in favor of the bumpers is that it allows her peeps to see her face easier. I do like the idea of the hat pin-too bad it made a dent. The rest of the outfit looked great.
I like that the hatpin adds a little something to this hat, which otherwise would be very standard fair for our dear Beatrix. I always assumed the sinamay on these hats would be very stiff, but this proves that’s not the case, which is very interesting . . .
Aaand, we’re back! That flat brim recently was just a teaser…
I like it, it suits her, only she can pull it off
Princess Beatrix looks superb in blue, but I can’t develop a liking for these huge bumpers she is so fond of, and the dent in the hat doesn’t help either.
