This hat’s last outing was a mere six weeks ago, which is a little curious as the Queen usually places more time in between repeats of the same ensemble. Have your thoughts changed on this piece at all since we saw it last?
I love the Queen in pink and this shade really suits her. It’s got a summer feel but matches the cooler weather.
I think this hat looks really nice on the Queen. I just wish we could have seen more of the dress.
So soon?! This one does need to be retired now surely. Although with everything going on yesterday, HM knew this wasn’t her most important appearance of the day!
I like the roundness of the crown, but the wrap of boucle material doesn’t seem to add to the look. I certainly do not mind the Queen wearing light pink in the summertime. It seems very appropriate.
How nice to see HM with her grandson. As others have stated, this is not her usual bold color, but since there wasn’t going to be a huge crowd needing to see her, the color was appropriate. As to the hat, it seems that she has found a few styles she is comfortable wearing, and at her age, why not wear what is comfortable? I rather like this hat because it seems very summery and the bow on the side is a clean look for a boucle fabric hat.
Not my favorite color for HM, far too pale. Not sure if it is the color or hectic schedule of the past few weeks but she looks tired – certainly to be expected at her age, but most unusual for her. Hope she and the Duke can get some well-deserved rest at Balmoral soon!
Nice summer color on HM. How nice that Wills was the one to give them the ‘royal’ tour!
I feel the whole outfit is somehow insipid – and as we know the Queen can wear much stronger colours – this pink is just too wishy washy. The coat is awful – shapeless and the neckline is as Snug Harbor says – just not flattering. Not at all keen on the hat either – miles away from the excellent RTM hats!!!
I agree with you Ruth Drury says: July 13, 2016 at 4:13 pm. I never was fond of the coat or the hat. I do however love the brooch!
I agree with you all — Snug Harbour, Ruth Drury and Alex.
What has changed since all previous outings of this hat and coat is the dress. Before the dress always been of the same material as the coat and hat. Today’s dress — clearly visible in second photo above — is something else. Although it may be one worn at a couple of investitures, I don’t think it’s every appeared with any coat and/or hat, certainly not with this set.
That all having been said, I rather liked the hat originally but am tired of it. The neck of the coat remains too big, usually off center, and the Queen now has several new light pink outfits that should have replaced this one. It is surprising that this coat has been worn at all seasons of the year. Perhaps that’s why a lighter-weight dress was chosen today. The color seems summery but perhaps the weight is that of a winter coat.
