Queen Sirikit looks great in these hats, and they remind me a lot of those worn by Audrey Hepburn in films like “Charade”.
The deep pillbox is not a pleasing shape to me today, but it may have had an edge in its simplicity over the turban styles of the day.
In the sixties, Queen Sirikit made the list of the world’s best dressed women.

It’s hard to know if this hat suits the queen, without a side view. In those days Queen Sirikit wore pillboxes designed to contain her long hair in its everyday high updo, and which were therefore quite long and deep- unlike Jackie Kennedy’s flatter models which were worn over short hair. I think that viewed from the side, Queen Sirikit’s deep pillboxes of this era can look unbalanced on her petite and delicate frame. Here’s another example:
She could wear this today and still look chic. They have such a touching love story.
I agree with Liz: it is a very Jackie look: classic, elegant, timeless. Do you happen to know what color she was wearing? I’m just curious.
Very “Jackie Kennedy” look. Timeless classic.
