to this day in 1965 – Princess Beatrix attended the christening of her goddaughter Sibylla (daughter of Princess Margaretha of Sweden and John Ambler) in a slate grey turban covered in abstract leaves in the same shade.

I’m in an imagination, if a State Visit of the Dutch Royal couple to the UK happens at some point soon in the current reign, would Queen Maxima look great wearing this entire essemble? Princess Beatrix wore this in the UK too and I have a feeling that our Max would rock in this 🙂
She was attractive then and still is. I agree with Edie E about her “glowing freshness”.
The hat is an interesting one, though entirely of its day–the hatpin in splendid and contrasting isolation in the front! However, I have to say that, for me, interest in her hat on this occasion falls to second place: she had even then an extraordinary presence, combined with a glowing freshness. Very beautiful photos, thank you.
It’s sort of a helmet-turban hybrid, isn’t it? Not my favorite type of hat, but it works. Those leaves add a lot of dimension. I agree with Glitter Girl that the Princess looks beautiful!
Enjoying these vintage photos so much, Hat Queen! Many thanks!
Wow! She looks gorgeous!
