twenty-five years to October 20, 1992 and a graphic statement hat worn on a visit to Germany. This design, with stacked blue and green bumper brims, packs quite a wallop of visual punch. It is another stick-in-your-mind hat that I’m surprised not to have seen before – I imagine it will be familiar to many of you but thought it was way too much fun not to revisit.

I like the little pretzel on the side; seems appropriate for a visit to Germany.
For reasons I can’t quite put my finger on, I like the solid green one quite a bit and the two-toned one not at all. It’s not the hair covered in the front, since that’s true of both. It might just be that in the case of the two-toned, I can’t separate the hat from the outfit, and really don’t like either!
Which brings a question to mind – Diana notably gave away some of her day outfits, which at least in the case of her sisters and the Duchess of York, were later photographed on their new owners, and then had that big auction toward the end of her life. What do you suppose has happened to any of these probably unusable and yet very recognizable outdated outfits of HM? Are there gigantic closets in all of her residences holding them? I can’t imagine they’re given away to thrift shops, as regular people might do!
Her designer Stewart Parvin at least is on record as saying that The Queen gets a lot of wear from many of her outfits and often sends them back for repairs/renovations. Some of her hats get makeovers too as we know. Obviously important historical items get kept for posterity as do all of our comments! I think there probably ARE giant closets. BTW for the record re hat 39 I did not suggest that the print was Hawaiian it was another commenter. I can’t imagine The Queen ever wearing a hat with a Hawaiian print hatband even in Hawaii or Florida and certainly not in Moscow on a State visit. Nor do I believe she has ever worn gingham even as a trim on her hat no matter what the newspapers say. She is a bold and adventurous hat wearer though.
Dear me! That green hat looks like a maze or something from Dr. Seuss! It’s dreadful and I can’t imagine why Her Majesty went out of her dressing room with that thing on her head no matter what it cost. Someone must have convinced her it was chic.
I like the blue and green hat – it’s rather smart. However, I don’t like not seeing any hair at the front.
I like the blue and green hat with the blue and green suit jacket. The view from the back of the green one I don’t care for, particularly.

Phalaenopsis orchid (moth orchid). Lovely (for an orchid lover).
Yes, orchids are my favorite flower. I was very happy to see Mary play around with hair accessories, since there were no hats on this trip so far.
Charming! Perfectly charming!
I remember seeing this in pictures from the same event. The hat reminds me of this one worn in Rome in October 2000: Embed from Getty Images

I don’t recall either of these hats having a second wearing.
Oh dear! Little wonder we never saw this “concoction” again. Who puts these awful things on HM’s head?
I quite like this combination of colors with the suit – don’t like the blouse, especially the bow.

This vaguely reminds me of a honey pot we had growing up – very sweet!
