to October 31, 1996 and a white picture hat worn on a state visit to Thailand. This hat seems unusual to me not only for its large scale and extra wide hatband but for the white beaded lace applique on the side – a much fussier trim than we usually see on Queen Elizabeth’s hats. Do any of you remember this particular design?

From the internet: “a woman’s highly decorated hat with a wide brim, as shown in pictures by 18th-century English painters such as Reynolds and Gainsborough”.

I love this hat too, in fact the entire outfit. So light and summery!
I’ve never seen this hat before, but I quite like it.

Does anyone have more details?
I think that hat was first seen at Royal Ascot in 2011.

Oh I love this hat on the CoW!! Glad to see it again. She (along with QMax) really have a way with dramatic hats.
In my opinion the Countess’s outfit is simply not up to the hat’s grandeur. The hat wears her. The hat itself is a work of millinery art.
That’s an old photo, Sophie didn’t wear a hat yesterday.
Royal Central have illustrated their story with an old pic of the Countess taken 4 months ago. Their mistake. The Countess was hatless yesterday at Pinewood Studios: https://twitter.com/sirrogermoore/status/919917501739356160/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.express.co.uk%2Fentertainment%2Ffilms%2F867216%2FJames-Bond-Sir-Roger-Moore-Pinewood-Studios-Stage
I quite like it ! Could you please explain what “picture hat” means ? Is it just anything with a wide brim ?
