Dutch Royals Attend Four Freedom Awards

Members of the Dutch royal family attended the Four Freedom Awards yesterday to honor this year’s recipients, Erol Onderoglu from Turkey, Bishop Paride Taban from South Sudan, Emmanuel de Merode from the Virunga Alliance in Democratic Republic of Congo and Urmila Chaudhary from Nepal.

For this event, Queen Máxima repeated her large pale pink straw picture hat with dramatic upswept brim.

Photographs taken at this event unfortunately don’t do the hat justice- it’s a wonderful scale on Máxima and the delicate colour gives it a gentle softness that contrasts well with it’s substantial size.

Princess Beatrix repeated a dark purple straw hat with square crown and wide, upturned kettle brim. The hat is trimmed with a folded straw hatband (giving the look of a double layered crown) and a single straw twist at the side.  A familiar shape on Princess Beatrix, the rich colour suits her well and pairs well with her graphic dress.

  1. Lovely! Maxima’s hat has the effect of casting a flattering glow on her face, and Beatrix looks beautiful in this dark purple.

  2. A great larger slice hat for Máxima, but with this outfit it is kinda bland; a more colorful outfit would help this hat stand out more. But the 4th photo of the post (the closeup one) is a beautiful portrait of Máxima, who celebrates her 47th birthday today!

Beatrix looks lovely in this purple, and it’s nice to see her out with the King & Queen. Brava!

    • I agree with you about the overall blandness of Queen Maxima’s outfit. The hat is lovely by itself, but not zingy enough to ‘carry’ the outfit alone.
Princess Beatrix, on the other hand, looks amazing from head to toe.
