Queen Máxima was in Utrecht yesterday to take part in the jubilee congress of the National Institute for Budget Information. For this event, she repeated her blocked black felt teardrop percher with deep crease, trimmed with a black quill with jewelled beads.
The hat’s unusual shape and beautiful sheen give it memorability on its own but its the combination with the beaded magenta frock that makes it sing. The two pieces are so well balanced and contrasted, they both are elevated by the presence of the other. I’m not sure I’d be drawn to this hat on its own but as part of this ensemble, it’s marvelous.

Royal Hats 
I agree with others that this is not the hairstyle I would’ve paired with this hat, but Máxima still looks great! Seeing this makes me wish she would experiment a little more with cocktail perchers to change things up once in a while.
I still love this combination. Queen Maxima wears bright colors brilliantly, and the hat is still so funky – I don’t know anyone else who could pull off that design.

Definitely a case of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts! Agree with JamesB and Matthew that the more finished hair in the previous appearance set the hat off better. Also, the hat is positioned too far forward this time. It’s still a splendid look overall.
I really like the hat and I love the dress, but I actually think they don’t go that well together. Something about the proportion seems a little bit off. I think there’s a lot of long pink dress, and the hat feels too small to balance it out. It feels like a dress that wants a bigger hat, and maybe this hat would go better with a shorter trimmer skirt/suit. She looks fabulous though, and I love seeing something in a different shape.
This is a wonderful ensemble – both dress and hat, and though I agree with JamesB that her hairstyle last time flattered the hat more, that is a minor complaint. Definitely an A+ on this one!
At first I thought the sign in the background of the first picture was part of the hat, and I thought “yes, this is the level of wackiness I expect from Maxima.”
This is an outfit that we first saw in London and it still looks great! Wonderful colour combination – and Queen Maxima is one of the very few royals able to carry this off. The black hat is “Ab Fab”!
This is still a fabulous and very glamorous look. Really; only Máx can do this! Her hairdo here isn’t as polished as the last time though and it does bring it down a notch for me. But I nitpick. She’s as fabulous as ever.
