to the 1977 Silver Jubilee tour and a stop in Portsmouth that saw a very interestingly shaped, striped hat on Queen Elizabeth. A bit of a UFO vibe on this one, I adore its creativity.

I remember this hat, but like others, I had only seen photos from the front and never noticed that vibe on the top. Great hat, and I agree that it looks better with the floral dress than with the coat.
Wow, I really like this hat. The colours and shape are so unusual, and the green coat provides great colour contrast. Footage with this hat from HM’s 1975 Mexico trip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMOseW6NXFs
So interesting! It’s sort of like a bouffant tam, but formed instead of slouchy. Would you guess Simone Mirman, HQ?
Wow, what a very interesting hat. I found what seems to be this UFO’s maiden voyage, whose first sighting appeared two years earlier! Enjoy.
May 11, 1975: Japan (many photos, none are embeddable!) This is a good close-up, showing a rear bow.

Check out the sideburns on the man in Jimbo’s 2nd picture!!
Great finds, Jimbo! I think I like this one better with the dress than the coat.
Good to hear from you — seems like it’s been a while.
Brilliant, Jimbo- I was hoping you’d be able to share some history on this one! I agree- it’s a great pairing with the floral dress.
A Mexican debut would explain the green white and red colour scheme…
I too thought this was just a regular upturned brim. Seeing those stripes elevates it to
Wow! category. I think I love it. The coat isn’t really a match in terms of fabulousness at all alas.
Nice hat. It looks like an upturned Breton style brim from the front. Only from the side do you see the UFO inspiration!
A very unusual hat. Regardless, it looks lovely, and blends in well with the Queens coatdress, love the mix of colours.
