The Duchess of Wessex braved a very windy morning in Camberley today to represent The Queen as the Reviewing Officer at The Sovereign’s Parade at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. For this event, she braved the elements in a new black felt pillbox hat.
The hat’s classic shape is a more traditional choice for the Countess than we usually see her wear but I really like it- its scale is perfect on her and the slightly flared shape gives lift to the design and frames her face in a lovely way. While I do appreciate the bolder, more daring designs that Sophie has favored in recent years, she carries this classic design so beautifully, it’s nice to see her change things up.

Previously Worn: This hat is new
There isn’t much left to say when so many others have already posted except for “I agree!” but I do. This hat was perfect for what was clearly a windy day. I like it better than the other hat previously worn with the same coat, but also, I think that earlier hat would not have done as well in the wind. The contrast of a black hat with this beautiful shade of blue coat was perfect with both hats. And finally, hats aside, I enjoyed looking at the photos as Sophie herself was clearly enjoying participating in this event.
Perfect shape and size. And in a rich felt. Sometimes that’s all you need. I like it a lot.
A simple and elegant ensemble that seemed to hold up well against the wind. The first picture of the last slideshow is an amazing photo of Sophie; the lighting is just perfect!
My only complaint (and this is in general, not necessarily in this particular instance) is that Sophie doesn’t seem to vary her hairstyles much, especially with her hats, and I wish she would experiment more as I think some of her hats could be shown off better with differing hairstyles rather than her always just pulling it back and up.
just as everyone needs a classic LBD (little black dress), Sophie has shown us the classic little black pillbox. it’s perfect!
Simply elegant – just what the occasion called for!
Sometimes a simple, classic design is just what’s needed!
Nice, simple uncluttered and sophisticated..also like the colour of the coat.
I always find this coat to be a little long, but the colour is wonderful on Sophie and this hat looks so nice with it!
She was also photographed with the King and Queen of Malaysia, who were in attendance.
The King and Queen of Malaysia were there because their son and heir just graduated from Sandhurst.
Good choice of hat on what looks like a very windy day! Also a slight military look, suitable for the occasion. I think I prefer this styling with the outfit to the hat she wore last Christmas.
Great memory! She did indeed wear this hat and ruffled collar dress last Christmas Day.
